A hamburger is such a simple and delicious combination. It’s casually defined as a ground meat patty served on a bun or roll and topped with various condiments.
For all its simplicity, you would think this beloved sandwich has been around forever. Yet it wasn’t until the very late 1800s that it started appearing on menus and dinner tables.
According to most historians, a chef at a small Texas saloon put Hamburg steak between two slices of bread sometime around 1884. Countless other stories exist, as well as many claiming credit for inventing the hamburger. Its origins remain shrouded in mystery and controversy to this day!
Despite its humble beginnings, the hamburger has come a long way. You can find a delicious burger pretty much anywhere … from fast food eateries to your own backyard grill to the finest high-end restaurant. The ‘burger’ continues to evolve and delight! Meat or no meat, bun or bun-less, and of course, the range of toppings are endless. Today’s burger is far more than just beef and bread (vegetarians, rejoice!).
And while we adore the classic beef burger (nestled amongst a bed of Olivia’s greens of course), this week we’re spotlighting four fun and fabulous burger recipes – just in time for that July 4th BBQ!
