Tips for Staying Healthy at Home!

March 18, 2020 | Newsletters

As we navigate these trying and uncertain times together, we want to begin by saying that our hearts are with our friends, family and neighbors. With current guidelines around social distancing and encouraging families to remain close to home, we thought we’d devote this newsletter to providing some tips for maintaining a fresh and healthy diet even when you may not be able to head to your local store or market.

Read on for a few hints on finding healthy recipes and making the most of your greens.

Tips for Freezing Greens
Ready for some good news? Hearty greens like kale and spinach are easy to freeze. Simply drop the greens into a larger freezer bag, squeeze out as much air as you can, seal them up and stash them in the freezer. Once frozen, toss the greens in your favorite smoothie or cook them as you normally would in all your go-to dishes.

Pantry-Ready Recipes
If you’re stocking up on greens and pantry staples, you’re probably on the lookout for recipes that incorporate canned goods while still remaining healthy and as fresh as possible. See the recipes below for two tasty options!

Spinach Chili: This hearty chili gets a flavor punch-up from a wide variety of spices and beans. Swap out fresh oregano and cilantro for the dried stuff in a pinch. Best of all, you can freeze a big batch to defrost and enjoy later.

Kale with Tomatoes & Cannellini Beans: Put that frozen kale to good use in this Italian-inspired dish that can be built from items you probably already have in your pantry and your refrigerator.

Hopefully these recipes inspire a few ways to create healthy meals using ingredients you have on hand.
