We just love spotlighting people doing good in their communities. We’re constantly inspired by the stories we hear of people coming together to support each other, cheer each other on, and help each other out.
This week, we’re highlighting one inspiring Olivia’s fan who is supporting loved ones in a big way.
Meet Sherry Jackson!
Compassionate community member and fabulous Olivia’s fan committed to kicking out cancer!
Tell us a bit about yourself and how you first got involved with the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk!
I grew up in Lowell and went to UMass Amherst for finance. I live on Cape Cod with my husband, Phil, and our two miniature dachshunds. Phil and I started walking in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk in 1997 on Team Jacqueline for our friend’s daughter who was diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma right before her third birthday. The odds for survival were zero past two years. Thanks to the experimental protocol and treatment she was given, she is alive, working, and going to be 28 years old this summer!
Can you talk a bit about what the Jimmy Fund Walk means to you and why you’re so passionate about supporting such an incredible event?
This year will be our 26th Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. We have raised over $178,500 over the years thanks to some amazing supporters! The walk has raised over $155 million since 1989. It raises the most money of any single-day walk in the nation. Last year, we had the names of 206 friends and family on our shirts that we walked in honor of or in memory of, including both of our dads.
Unfortunately, that list grows each year. Cancer touches everyone. That is why we walk. We walk for all those who have battled cancer, who are battling cancer or will fight cancer in the future! We are deeply committed to doing our part to help raise money to fund research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to find a cure for cancer.
We heard your team is called Earl’s Eagles! Can you share where that name originated from?
Yes it is! We started Earl’s Eagles in 2010 when my dad, Earl, was diagnosed with mesothelioma and passed in October of that year after his 10-month battle with this horrific disease. Team Jacqueline was also transitioning over to the PMC bicycle ride, and we decided to continue to participate in the Jimmy Fund Walk on our new team, Earl’s Eagles.
How did you first get involved with Team Olivia’s?
I started buying your wonderful salad mixes and products. I received the emails and submitted a few recipes using their products!
Do you have a favorite Olivia’s product?
I probably buy the spring mix the most often due to availability on the Cape but I love all the products that I am able to get and have tried. They are always fresh and I love that they are organic!
Where can people find more information about Earl’s Eagles and how to help you reach your goal?
We would be honored and grateful for any support in helping us fund a cure for cancer. Thank you! If anyone wants to donate, they can head to my fundraising page linked here: Sherry’s Fundraising Page!
Thanks so much, Sherry! You have such a powerful story to share, and you’re making an incredible impact. Best of luck with this year’s walk.
