As this unprecedented pandemic continues, we’ve seen incredible resilience and support in the face of tremendous challenges. Healthcare workers, first responders, delivery drivers, grocery store employees and community food organizers have proven they are truly essential now and always. Local businesses have transitioned into new directions in order to support the changing needs of their communities.
Essential workers are being celebrated in so many inspiring ways. From food and monetary donations to setting up nonprofits to surprise parades and “Thank You” signs. While the world has slowed down, acts of kindness continue to go up! Today we want to recognize some of the amazing organizations in our local area. Read on for more about those doing great work to keep our communities strong.
Hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout the world are working tirelessly to save lives. Here in the Boston area, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center are just a few on the frontlines of this pandemic. These heroes work incredibly long hours, shift after shift, night and day caring for those in the greatest need. Like so many in the food and restaurant industry, Olivia’s continues to show our support by donating produce and salads to the amazing staff while they work tirelessly to keep our community healthy.
Food banks, food pantries and impromptu food drives continue to provide and deliver food day after day to combat hunger and meet the needs of local families and seniors. The Good Shephard Parish (thefoodbasketsmv.org) on the Cape, The Connolly Center in Everett, and the Pop Up pantries in Chelsea are just a fraction of the ongoing food support in our area. As the demand increases, these amazing folks work harder and more hours to keep up. So we’re following suit and keeping the Olivia’s van on the road donating salads and produce to these amazing groups as they continue to provide food relief to local families. At the same time, the Greater Boston Food Bank continues its critical and incredible work in meeting the increased demand. Our very own Olivia is a staunch supporter of the GBFB and organized a virtual fundraiser to raise money for children, senior citizens and others impacted by the coronavirus. Together with her friends and many donors, they shattered their fundraising goal and are still accepting donations!
Like all first responders across Massachusetts, our local Chelsea Police Department are going above and beyond to keep residents safe and informed in these uncertain times. We love showing our gratitude with some Caesar salad love to help keep them fueled as they bravely serve our community.
We are beyond grateful for all of these generous and giving folks, and also all of those behind the scenes supporting them. We all have a role to play, big and small, to keep our communities safe.
You may recognize some of these acts of kindness from our Instagram page. We’re always on the lookout for more ways to give back, and we’d love it if you follow along on our journey.
